About Advocates 4 History
How it All Started
Mae Green's community work started in 1997 as she began partnering with educators in organizing and convening innovative educational programs for DC area residents. In 2020, Mae founded Advocates 4 History Inc.® (A4H) to continue this work.
Since its founding, A4H has inspired and empowered students to envision real opportunities for growth and actively pursue future goals, partly by helping them draw on the experience of modern and historical community figures and trailblazers.
Lessons Learned
Through facilitating Advocates 4 History Inc.® curriculum over the years, Mae has learned that we are all more alike than different, there is great value in looking for the best in people, and that life is full of opportunities to plant seeds. A4H exists to create experiences that allow all in the community to discover beautiful things like this for themselves.
Our Goals
A4H fosters a commitment to learning and empowers students to find inspiration in history, the stories of real individuals from their communities, and their peers.
We furnish a culture of support, assisting educators and instructors in creating exciting activities which help children excel in their studies and personal lives.
We work to instill within children a sense of personal responsibility to rise above the negative patterns and behaviors modeled in our society and grow as conscientious contributors in their respective communities and the world.
We are eager to partner with educators and donors in holding events to capture students' and adults' attention, imagination, and talents in sharing our inclusive history.
Examples of Past Events
Since 2015, Mae has focused on expanding Advocates 4 History's reach. A4H events have been held at the University of the District of Columbia, Bethesda Naval Medical Center (now known as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), and La Plata High School of La Plata, Maryland. In 2021 Advocates 4 History Inc.® was honored by receiving its 501©3 status.
